MEET BRIDGET STARKEY
Born in Los Gatos, California on Thanksgiving Day to native-Californian mother and Illinois-born father.
Learns the word “Macy’s.” Mom knows this can’t be good.
Brother, Joseph, is born and she thinks he was sent just for her constant entertainment. She starts to boss him around and tell him what to do right from the start.
Gets a hold of a tape recorder and decides to record self singing and conducting stimulating interviews with brother who can’t talk yet. Mom feared she would pursue a career in singing or hosting a talk show. Also, “saves her brother’s life” as she catches Joe from falling off of a chair three inches from the ground. Event is caught on camera by father trying not to laugh at his daughter’s heroic efforts.
Starts kindergarten and has to part with mom, much to her dismay. Loves art, playing pretend and telling friends what to do. (At age five, it is clear she is a born leader.) She is very particular about her outfits and the placement of the bow in her hair.
Spends free time making friendship bracelets and lanyard key chains, hoping to open a neighborhood business and make a profit to support shopping obsession.
Teachers approached parents about skipping a grade. After all, she was teaching herself multiplication and division, telling everyone in class what to do and how to do it, and coordinating a budding social life. Objects because the boys in 5th grade weren’t as cute as the ones in 4th grade. Argument doesn’t work and she starts splitting her days between the two grades.
Makes a full transition into 5th grade and admits the boys are indeed just as cute (maybe even cuter).
Chosen among peers at three schools by teachers and principal to win the prestigious Dick Bacon Writing Award for excellence in writing. Writing is an obvious passion.
Develops a taste for gourmet coffee and becomes instantly addicted.
Starts Ursuline High School (all-girls) where she decides to get involved in every activity possible – plays on the JV volleyball team and wins Freshman Class President. She is “that public school girl.”
Plays the Varsity volleyball team and continues in student government, while taking accelerated honors and AP classes. Still telling everyone what to do and how to do it, all the while setting trends by adding her own personal touch to the school uniform.
Elected ASB President (her ultimate goal at this point in life) and manages event coordination, communication to the student body and fulfilling duties of dressing up for every spirit day. Voted “most spirited” by classmates.
Begins studies at Santa Clara University. Family drives her in two cars because her boxes take up the entire back of the family mini-van. She must part with mom (again), much to her dismay.
Declares Marketing major and Communications minor before departing on 6-month study abroad program in Italy. She is upset they don’t serve grande, non-fat, extra-hot, sugar-free vanilla lattes in Rome, but develops a deep appreciation for European culture.
Serves as the Recruitment Vice President of Alpha Phi and leads her chapter in the number one recruitment position. Proves herself a multi-tasker extraordinaire and continuously improves her management and planning skills. Balances a full class load with an internship at a local film festival and a nanny job. Realizes that event planning and PR are the best combination for her skills and experience.
Graduates from Santa Clara University with honors in Communications and accepts a position with an internal communications agency in Chicago – David Grossman & Associates. Parents must part with her, much to their dismay.
Makes it through her first Midwest winter and decides to pursue her dream of working in PR and media relations. Finds Current to be the best opportunity to leverage her experience, grow professionally and jump into the industry she’s always wanted to work in. Still drinks lots of coffee and loves to shop.
Two Chicago winters was enough. Chicago was amazing, but this California girl packed her bags and moved back to the City by the Bay to work in the San Francisco Current office.
Rifles through spokesperson’s lingerie drawer to find her “best accessory” for a satellite media tour, and redeems herself by attending New York Fashion Week.
Becomes one of Current’s go-to girls for social media expertise.
